Greg Hill, president of Maple Hill Tree Services, is presently a director on the board for reTREEt America. reTREEt America is a new upstart Non-Profit Organization dedicated to planting trees in communities which have been devastated by a natural disaster. reTREEt America a kaleidoscopic group of bicycle and tree enthusiasts with strong backs, sharp minds, and big hearts who volunteer to replant communities.
They consider themselves second responders; just as the mess has been cleaned up and lives are being put back together they arrive to plant new trees on the bare lawns and landscapes. In an effort to help those most in need and fulfill their passion for cycling, the reTREEter’s plant trees at no cost to the homeowner. The reTREEter’s have been focusing their efforts in communities which have been recently devastated by a tornado or a wild fire. Check out the Facebook page for our history and upcoming events.
The most recent venture was in Lancaster,Texas where 30 volunteers rode their bikes from Dallas to Lancaster and planted over 200 trees on over 30 private properties. The communities were extremely appreciative of our actions and were overwhelmed by the amount of people willing to lend a helping hand.
Two of reTREEt America’s mandates are; harness the spirit of volunteerism that exists in everyone and that is brought to the surface when disasters strike, and enlivencommunities both socially and economically in the aftermath of disasters. This creates an environment which leads to such a self gratifying experience that nobody will likely ever forget. It’s always a pleasure to see people willing to help others in need.
We are excited about our upcoming events in Joplin, Missouri November 2 – 4, 2012 and Goderich, Ontario November 16 – 18, 2012
